About us

"Many people in deprived or displaced communities still don't have access to literacy building opportunities. Yet literacy is one of the most fundamental gateways to knowledge and improving living conditions."

Acting for Change International (AFCI) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to empower vulnerable communities. AFCI was founded by Kotaiba Alabdullah, a refugee from the Syrian city of Palmyra in October 2016, as a Syrian refugee-led initiative. Our objective is to improve the long-term living conditions and opportunities for people living in crisis-hit areas which have been neglected by the broader humanitarian and developmental response.

Every organisation has a mission. This is ours.

We have come a long way since our founding in October 2016.
